Media Madness Monday – Frankenstein

We all know the famous story by Mary Shelley. That story is Frankenstein. There are many adaptations of this story in movies, but I believe my all time favorite is with Robert DeNiro. I feel that this story must be put on a pedestal, right up there with Bram Stoker’s Dracula in the horror genre.

In my perception, the monster is not the monster, but Dr. Frankenstein himself. You must be asking why. Think of it this way, Dr. Frankenstein is playing God when putting different body parts together from cadavers to create another person. He does not allow this creation to go out in public, and at the same time will not be nice to him. Therefore, the monster leaves the lab, and the Doctor behind and tries to meet others and make friends.

It does not go well as the monster does not know exactly on how to socialize, and the public is afraid of him. The way he looks, the way he talks, the way he walks and acts.

I honestly love this story. It is so emotional, this book will make you cry, make you angry, it will make you sympathize for the monster. Robert DeNiro could not have played it better. He was a genius playing the monster. He made it believable, he made me sympathize with the monster (even more than the book). He made the monster alive. The movie was done exactly how it was described in the book. I recommend both the book, and to watch the movie.
