A wonderful “history” book on different women of the same family line with different personalities.
A sweeping historical saga that traces five generations of fiercely powerful mothers and daughters – witches whose magical inheritance is both a dangerous threat and an extraordinary gift.
I saw A Secret History of Witches advertised on Facebook on Mother’s Day. I had to order it. I love anything with witches. The story starts out in 1827, with meeting the grand witch Ursele, who dies and is left buried in the middle of nowhere while her daughters and their husbands run for hiding. You meet her daughters, and the only witch out of the daughters who births a daughter is Nanette.
It goes on with her daughter Ursele (yes, named after the grandmother), Ursele has a daughter Irene. Irene has a daughter Morwen who has a daughter Veronica, which ends with her. Each daughter has a different personality. Through each daughter, the power becomes stronger, and each learn of their heritage in a different way.
I can see this story as a mixture of Charmed and Practical Magic. You learn of the heritage and how it all began. You will love, you will hate, you will fear, and you will grow.
I rate the book 5/5 for not only the way it was written, but the story and the feeling.
